"Uncle Sam's New Deal" Traveling Exhibit
Winner of the 2012 American Association for
State and Local History (AASLH) Award of Merit
For this traveling exhibit, Emily expanded on the research she had
done for the permanent exhibit "Uncle Sam Worked Here." She
identified significant projects throughout Minnesota that were funded
as part of the New Deal. These included the WPA-funded Hallie Q.
Brown nursery school in St. Paul; Whitewater State Park in Winona
County, developed by the National Park Service and the Civilian
Conservation Corps; and Elbow Lake's Scofield-Thorson Memorial
Building, the first PWA-funded building in Minnesota.
